Core skills training increases productivity, reduces loss and lead time

Wisconsin manufacturer invests in employees for business success

Organization: 

Mule-Hide Manufacturing Co. Inc. manufactures paper products for the residential and commercial building sectors. The paper is used in both low slope and steep slope applications.

Need: 

To increase employee engagement and improve employee satisfaction and effectiveness. Mule-Hide wanted employees to feel valued as members of the organization.

Solution: 

Critical Core Manufacturing Skills (CCMS) training and safety training provided by Chippewa Valley Technical College. Mule-Hide made a major commitment to provide training in core manufacturing skills by arranging to have virtually all of their production employees complete a 12-module technical certificate training in CCMS.

The training was funded by Mule-Hide as part of its training budget. A workforce Advancement Training (WAT) grant supported the training, making the training very cost effective for the company.

Results: 

After the training Mule-Hide reported reduced loss, reduced lead-time, increased business opportunities, increased productivity and improved soft skills among employees. Management noticed increased worker engagement and improved communication.
