The Introduction to Wind Energy Technology certificate provides students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to explore career opportunities in the growing wind energy industry. Employment opportunities are increasing for skills technicians who are able to operate and repair wind energy systems. Although the Introduction to Wind Energy Technology certificate provides basic installation, troubleshooting and repair skills, individuals interested in pursuing advanced career opportunities are encouraged to continue their education in the Industrial Maintenance Technician program, as the electro-mechanical skills taught in this program are transferrable to the wind industry. Individuals interested in becoming a wind turbine technician should have good vision and hearing, manual dexterity, strong communication skills, and be able to stand for long periods of time. Additionally, they should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, work outside in various climate conditions, and be able to walk and climb towers of 270 feet.
