Mid-States Aluminum Corporation is a vertically-integrated company, specializing in aluminum extrusion. Employees take an aluminum part from initial design, through die creation and alloy specification. Mid-States is capable of machining and fabricate parts and tools to convert parts from an extrusion to a ready-to-install component.
Mid-State saw the need to increase the number of employees with computer numerical control (CNC) machining skills.
Management called upon Moraine Park Technical College to establish a 16-week concentrated program for CNC training. They chose the candidates for the program who they were most likely to hire at completion of the program.
Mid-States gained employees who were ready to assume their duties right away. "This was the ideal relationship between academia and business," said Steve Peterson, president and CEO of Mid-States Aluminum. "There was nothing to lose with this."
