Barber
Barbers cut, trim, shampoo, and style hair. It is also not uncommon for a barber to provide hair and scalp treatments, shave male customers, and give facial massages. Barbers are expected to keep their work area clean and their hairdressing implements sanitized. They may make appointments and keep records of hair color and permanent wave formulas used by their customers.
Barbers generally work in clean, pleasant surroundings with good lighting and ventilation. Workers must stand a great deal and prolonged exposure to some hair and nail chemicals may be hazardous and cause irritation. Evening and weekend work is often expected.
Persons who want to become barbers should exhibit finger dexterity, a sense of form and artistry, and they should be able to deal well with the public.
Training lasts for two years consisting of no less than 4,000 hours of on-the-job training with a minimum of 288 hours of classroom instruction. When apprenticeship is completed, must pass Barber State Board.
