Prototype and Design Technician

The Prototype and Design Technician prepares students to be model builders in a variety of industries, such as architectural, mechanical, product development, prototype, legal, props, and special effects. Graduates of the program will be able to safely operate all hand and stationary tools typically used in a professional model shop, create jigs and fixtures necessary for special machining operations, effectively estimate the time and cost of a model, use critical thinking and problem solving techniques in the construction of a model, create programs to be used on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling machines using Surf CAM software, create a variety of computer aided drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks & Mechanical Desktop, produce highly detailed and accurate parts using the laser machining center, construct 3D models using a variety of rapid prototyping processes, fabricate silicone rubber molds and rigid molds suitable for casting and apply a variety of industrial finishes on various materials.
