Automotive Technology, 2012 & Business Management, 2014
Estimator, Pulera Collision Center
Brent Tate started his dream job only three years after graduating from high school and without a lot of student loan debt.
While in high school, Brent enrolled in Gateway Technical College’s Automotive Technology program through the Youth Options program. He earned half of the credits needed for an Automotive Technology degree while in high school, and competed it a year after graduation.
Also during high school, Brent competed in a national automotive technology event and earned a scholarship that paid for part of the final year of his degree. He returned to Gateway to earn a Business Management degree because he believed it would give him more options for his future. The two degrees helped him qualify for a position as an estimator at a Kenosha collision repair shop.
“I initially earned the business degree as a backup plan for the first one, but it turned out I was able to use both,” he said.
Youth Options allowed Brent to save money, start his career much earlier than his peers and gain the skills for a better-paying job. He plans to use the benefits of a transfer agreement to earn a bachelor’s degree online.
