Western's YouthBuild program aims to get at-risk youth back on track

A new program in La Crosse will combine a high school education with building a house. Through Western Technical College's YouthBuild program, local high school dropouts and credit deficient students can get paid to earn a GED.

New program at CVTC allows high school students to earn college degrees

Chippewa Valley Technical College has unveiled a new program allowing high school students to earn associate degrees — a first in Wisconsin. The program in business management is set to begin in the fall at River Falls High School.

Gov. Walker promotes education budget ideas at FVTC

Walker visited Fox Valley Technical College to take a tour of the new Public Safety Training Center, which opened last year to help law enforcement and firefighters train. He also was there to tout his budget proposal, which he introduced recently to lawmakers in Madison.

CVTC adds Library and Information Services associate degree program

Chippewa Valley Technical College will begin offering a Library and Information Services associate degree in August 2017. The degree would apply to people with an interest or a current position working in libraries. There are currently no other undergraduate programs in library science in the state.

Technical college tuition freeze in Gov. Walker’s budget proposal

Under provisions announced in Gov. Walker’s executive budget, college students would receive more need-based financial aid and those attending technical schools would have their tuition frozen. The governor’s office estimated the tuition freeze would save about $280 over two years.

WCTC receives donation to provide manufacturing technology upgrade

Waukesha County Technical College has received a donation of $188,000 to purchase an automated manufacturing cell for the college’s Automation Systems Technology (AST)/Robotics program. The new FANUC automated manufacturing cell will be located in the college’s Integrated Manufacturing Center, which opened last April.

CVTC Mechanical Design program approved by WTCS

The Wisconsin Technical College System Board has approved a comeback of the Mechanical Design program at Chippewa Valley Technical College for the fall of 2017. A previous program at CVTC’s Eau Claire campus was discontinued around the early 2000s.

MATC, UWM and MPS launch joint education initiative

Milwaukee Area Technical College, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Milwaukee Public Schools officially have launched their joint education initiative, called M³ or M-Cubed. Its goal is to increase retention, graduation and career success of Milwaukee area students.

Nicolet receives WEDC grant to expand entrepreneurship programs

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation announced 11 grants statewide from a pool of $500,000 for entrepreneurship support grants. Nicolet College, one of the grant recipients, was given $27,000 to expand its entrepreneurship programs.
