It’s graduation season at Wisconsin’s technical colleges, a time when we recognize the thousands of students who are educated, trained and ready to solve your employment needs.

Each year, graduates from over 500 industry-driven programs in high-demand sectors enter the labor force prepared for highly skilled technical professions — and these graduates are in higher demand than ever before. According to the WTCS Graduate Outcomes Report, a survey of more than 25,000 individuals who graduated from a technical college in 2018, 94% were employed within six months of graduation. This is a win-win for graduates as well as Wisconsin employers, as the majority of these graduates (also 94%) stay in state after graduation.

The Outcomes Report shows a direct correlation between the industries with the most severe worker shortage and graduates quickly finding employment in those career fields:

*According to the Center for American Progress, over half of Wisconsin children live in a "child care desert," meaning there's only one slot of licensed child care for every three children. Several counties had zero licensed child care providers at the time the data was collected. It makes sense then that 100% of Child Care Services graduates were employed six months after graduation, with 98% of Early Childhood Education also having found employment.

*With an aging population and fewer immigrants, the state could have a culinary shortage of 45,000 workers by 2024. In such a high-demand field, 94% of culinary arts graduates found employment within six months of graduation with a median starting salary of $30,000

*Police departments all across Wisconsin are struggling to find officers. The number of officers per capita is down to 2.17 officers per 1,000 people. Subsequently, 95% of Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement graduates are employed with a median starting salary of $47,318.
